About The Faculty

Dr. Meghna Verma has completed her Ph.D. in Airport Retail, focusing on retail product purchase behaviour of domestic passengers, from the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) Bengaluru. Before that, she did her MBA in Marketing and HR and M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics. She has been a faculty of marketing and analytics at RIM since 2009. She has over 22 years of industry, teaching, and research experience. She has worked with reputed industrial firms like Anchor Electronics & Electricals Ltd., Nilkamal Plastics Ltd., Time Packaging Ltd., and Unichem Pharma (Foreva Division).

Dr. Meghna Verma is actively involved in research projects. She was a co-investigator in Indo –Dutch Research Project, 'The Kumbh Mela Experiment (KME)' funded jointly by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India, and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). She is also the recipient of a research grant of nearly Rs.11 lakhs for the project titled "Institutionalizing Gender SMART and Gender Astute Mobility", funded by Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), Govt. of Karnataka, India. Dr.Verma contributed in-kind to the DULT Award-winning project, Clean Air Street testbed - Church Street First, and co-authored three chapters in the report titled, "Church Street First-Impact Assessment of Pedestrianizing an Urban Street an urban street in Terms of Quality of Life." She has presented her research work on KME in Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Denmark; Amsterdam Business School, Netherlands; Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany, and also at special session of KME in the 6th Conference of Transportation Research Group of India (CTRG-2021) hosted by NIT Trichy.

Dr.Verma has published many research papers in Journals listed in ABDC and SJR ranking and presented research papers at conferences held in IIT Bombay, IIM Indore, Brazil, and Sri Lanka, to mention a few.

She has delivered invited webinars in various institutes on 'Demarketing' advocating sustainability and local brands suggesting strategies to transform them into global brands.

Dr. Meghna Verma is a reviewer of reputed journals of Elsevier, Taylor & Francis, and Springer, like Journal of Convention and Tourism, Travel Behaviour and Society, Case Studies on Transport Policy, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, etc. She has traveled to many countries across the globe, including, Australia, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Russia, Brazil, U.K., USA, Portugal, France, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan, for both personal and professional work.

Dr.Verma was the resource person for the capacity building workshop for DULT, GOK, officials on 'Marketing of Sustainable Transport – A Case Study of Cycle Day Bangalore,' data analytics workshop (organised by IISc.), workshops on how to conduct Focus Group Discussions (FGD) for their Sustainable Mobility Accord (SuMA) project. She was also one of the resource persons for a GIAN course on travel behaviour, organised by IISc.

During her tenure at RIM, she was conference coordinator during the 2010 and 2012 RIM conferences, Faculty incharge –Alumni Matters for three years, Mentored students of Marketing Club for three years, organised self defense workshop for girl students of RIM and has been an active member of multiple functional committees.

Area of Research

Dr. Meghna Verma's research work mainly focused on tourism, women safety, social media marketing, e-tailing, marketing of sustainable transport services, crowd behaviour in mass religious events, etc. Her ongoing work is in the area of Airport Retail,  application of AI in marketing, and Gender SMART Mobility.

Awards and Recognitions

  • Dr.Meghna Verma is the recipient of Rs.11 Lakh research grant for the project titled, "Institutionalizing Gender SMART and Gender Astute Mobility." The project duration is 6 months, from 18th October to 18th April 2022 and has been extended by another 3 months. The project is funded by Directorate of Urban Land Transport, Government of Karnataka, under ASPIRE program 2020-21 and is being carried out in collaboration with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

  • Contribution to Award-winning project of DULT, GOK: Dr.Verma contributed in kind to the DULT Award-winning project, Clean Air Street testbed - Church Street First, and co-authored three chapters in the report titled, "Church Street First-Impact Assessment of Pedestrianizing an Urban Street an urban street in Terms of Quality of Life."   • DULT was the recipient of the "Commendation Award" by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, GOI, under the State that has implemented the Best Urban transport project in 2020-21. The project was implemented in association with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)Energy Systems CatapultUrban Morph, etc. DULT also received a "Certificate of Special Recognition" as part of the "Volvo India Innovation Award 2021" on 10th November 2021 for the same project.

  • Prof. Meghna Verma was one of the co-investigators in Indo –Dutch Research Project titled, “The Kumbh Mela Experiment (KME): Measuring and Understanding the dynamics of mankind’s largest crowd,” funded jointly by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India and Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), Netherlands. The project has been mentioned as one of the best-use cases of Artificial Intelligence in the country by NITI Aayog in its white paper titled, National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence’.
